Whispers

The Owlery was a popular place for students to hang out, especially those in the upper years, but it was also, well, an owlery which meant that it was frequently accosted by small children who lacked proper owls and were evidently homesick.

Alexandra walked into the tower to spy one such person struggling to affix a rolled up piece of parchment to a recalcitrant tawny bird, his messy blond hair sprawled across his forehead haphazardly as he ducked and dodged beak and claw. He wore a blue and bronze scarf, indicating he was a Ravenclaw, and his First Year robes were a little big for him at the wide arms of his sleeves.

"Stupid--bird--rrgh!" he muttered.

The weekly owl to the parents. Urgh. Other than doing Herbology homework, there wasn't anything that went to this level of being tedious. All the usual information was in it, she was keeping well and eating her greens and no, she hadn't got a dentention that week. All riveting stuff.

Trying desperately hard not to step in any owl poop was hard and Lexie ended up getting the soles of her shoes covered. Scowling as she walked towards an owl, she spoke to the wide eyed creature attaching the letter to it. "If I ever get to be prefect or if Hell freezes over, Head Girl, remind me that cleaning the crap in this place is a great dention,"

Folding her arms she turned and noticed a smaller student looking a little dishevelled and gave him a reassuring grin. "Did the owl win or did you?" Lexie asked in a light breezy tone often associated with her joking around.

"The--" he finally tackled the bird and managed to tie a messy knot in the parchment's twine against the creature's leg. "--jury's still out," he huffed, clamoring to his feet as the owl shrieked and flapped, darting out of the exposed tower at maximum speed. "Whew," he wiped his hands on his robes, getting sawdust all over them from the surrounding hay and wood chips. "Oh, uh, hi," the kid waved at her. "I'm Alex. I'm new."
