It's better to be slapped by the truth than kissed with a lie.

Uagadou is the Ugandan wizarding school, located in the Mountains of the Moon in western Uganda. It is the largest of the eleven wizarding schools, accepting students from all over Africa. Visitors to the school speak of a stunning edifice carved out of the mountainside and shrouded in mist, so that it sometimes appears simply to float in mid-air.

It's better to be slapped by the truth than kissed with a lie.

For now, Ochen had a room set up to stay in, though she payed more attention to settling into her office which was located down near the medical clinic. Though she had come with very little, it wasn't difficult to find the things she particularly enjoyed surrounding her work situation with-- a couple of living plants, a plethora of potions and remedies lining some shelves, a stack of on-topic books and tomes and a couple of lightly scented candles.

Her room was essentially bare, save for a small stack of student files that she had left on her desk to go over later. Dinner had, as it turned out, been just as awkward and quiet as she had predicted. Ochen had offered out small-talk between bites, informing Mulekwa of her most recent and interesting endeavours in the healing arts. The more she spoke, however, the more she felt oddly like she was stacking discomfort upon them and trepidation for a future that neither of them was truly prepared for, despite years of seeing it coming.

Today she'd been called, thankfully between classes, to tend a student who had been messing around before transfiguration class. Ochen fixed him up with a simple episky charm- the damage very slight (though the student was increasingly dramatic) and afterward she stood to watch the first moments of the class.

Mulekwa preferred classes outside when he could. Today they were using the courtyard, which was a large open-air garden in the center of the school that was favored for its convenient location and beauty by many teachers clamoring to use it for their classes as well. Mulekwa was draped casually on a bench as the children filed in, playing with Marumbe, a young Macaque who had become Uagadou's unofficial mascot after being rescued by another teacher two years ago.

The man looked relaxed, even with his back to her, far more relaxed than he'd been at dinner or the other day on the path. He wore robes in tan with short sleeves and gold trimmings, and chuckled as the monkey shook a little toy puzzle he had given it.

The class was small, with seven students only, and when everyone had arrived (laughing and talking amongst themselves at first, but they quieted down without the teacher having to say anything and gave him their attentions), Mulekwa gave Marumbe a small treat and stood. "Who knows why most of us cannot shift from form to form, and must first transfigure ourselves back before changing again?"

"We might get lost between?" one of the girls asked-- she had big eyes and was endlessly curious but often lost focus during class.

Ochen remained to watch, enjoying both the sight of learning and the time outside of her somewhat stuffy office.

"Good. Transfiguration, unlike charmwork, is not temporary or cosmetic. We do not look like a lion, or a snake, or a mongoose; we are it. Once you become the animal, you must return to your human form first before another change. The longer you are away, the greater chance you have at forgetting what that was. It is, technically and as long as you are not a human, lost."

"Have you ever gotten lost?" the same girl wanted to know, leaning forward with interest.

Ochen found herself curious about the answer, though she caught herself from leaning forward, too. Barely.

He allowed a brief smile. "No, but I think I would with a great cat." Most everyone knew of his affinity for the animals, and his multi-year expedition in search of different ones. In a more instructive voice, he added, "Self-awareness in this subject is essential. If there is a form of animal that you are too drawn to, it may be wise to not attempt a change into it. You may find it all the more difficult to pull yourself away."

An awed hush had fallen over the class an they all nodded eagerly, though he could tell that some of their eyes held the now-taboo interest of the theory with curiosity and interest.

Ochen allowed herself a small smile and finally pushed off the wall, turning to go. The movement where before there had been none caught a couple students eyes and they glanced over at her in unison before quickly returning their interest to their professor.

His eyes followed her out, briefly, and then he was drawing their attentions back to transfiguration.
