You'd Be Surprised

Post by Ginevra Potter (xan) » Mon Dec 25, 2017 2:26 am

Was it any surprised that Ginny Potter kept a busy, but neat home?

Listen, she was her mother through and through--as much as she might have turned red beneath her freckles and furiously denied it any time anyone brought it up (and it was a favorite thing of her brothers to say and, no, it was not a compliment. Her mother had caught word once and had squawked indignantly What's wrong with that? and all the Weasley children had felt terrible.)

With all the children away at school, the house often felt empty to Ginny--so she liked to fill it with things. When she was home, she was usually cooking or baking. There was usually a fire burning if it was chilly and a window open if it wasn't. She had two happy little owls that she adored that bounced gleefully around their cages. She brought friends over constantly for tea--or to just shoot the shit for fun. She enjoyed playing the radio (and singing when no one was around, and dancing when she was absolutely positive no one was around, though once Harry had caught her and had danced with her and it had been so romantic it had left her breathless.) She always kept a notebook near her in case she came up with a new idea for a story for the newspaper--and she was out almost every day riding her broom, just for fun. And on top of all that, she loved to learn new spells.

Ginny liked to stay busy--and when she wasn't doing something, she was thinking about the next thing she could do.

She had gotten it in her head that she wanted to make a new dish for dinner. She'd spent the whole afternoon perfecting swedish meatballs, pasta, spinach salad and garlic bread. She wasn't sure the foods matched, but she didn't care--it smelled heavenly.

She heard Harry come through the door (and she'd known he was coming, thanks to the clock her mother had given her as a wedding gift. God, she loved seeing his name up there. Was it weird that sometimes she still laid awake at night and thought I'm married to Harry Potter? Even weird than that was how she marveled over the fact that she had sex with the guy who had killed Voldemort. It was kind of hot, okay?) "Hey!" she called over her shoulder. Her red hair was in a messy ponytail and she had an apron tied around her still-slim frame. "Ten minutes and then dinner!"

He was more than happy to be home.

Harry genuinely liked his job (well, there was a caveat there as Ginny knew; he had loved it before, when he was just an Aurora, but ever since his promotion he found himself more in a management role and less doing the hands-on work that he loved), but that didn't mean he wasn't glad at the end of each day, when he could come back home and spend time with his family. Of course, Harry's day-to-day family now excluded the children (not that Harry was complaining about having Ginny all to himself), which made the house feel rather larger than it was. Ginny of course manage to compensate for this by bringing all sorts of people around. Generally Harry didn't mind, but every now and then it was a stressor for him and thus between them.

"Smells great!" Harry's voice came from the hall where he was taking off his cloak and boots, and a moment later he'd strode into the kitchen to wrap Ginny in a hug from behind and pressed a kiss to her neck. "Shall we let it burn this time?'

This was teasing and part of their evening ritual. Harry suggested they let dinner burn, Ginny protested in fake shock and managed to 'convince' him to wait until after they'd eaten, and then Harry stole her away to the bedroom. He always did the dishes after. She cooked, he cleaned.

Ginny grinned back at him as he entered--and then made a huffy, annoyed noise when he wrapped his arms around her.

"Harry Potter: The Boy Who Got in the Way," she proclaimed with a furrowed brow, moving her hand in front of her like it was a headline. "Harry Potter: The Chosen Pest." But then he pressed a kiss to her neck and she was giggling like they were teenagers again and trying to tuck her chin away from him. "You know, my dad knew better than to bother mum when she was cooking. One time he tried to ask her a question and she splattered him with gravy. Head to toe."

She told the story quite solemnly all the while menacingly lifting up a spoonful of thick brown gravy.

It had always been like this between them--the sheer ease and comfort of their interactions. It was like wearing your favorite sweatpants or sitting in your favorite chair. It fit around you just right and made you remember so many wonderful, warm things.

Ginny wasn't really about things that were comfortable, but she was all about Harry.
