“Okay,” he nodded. He figured Marlena would already know he was coming back, so he didn’t need to inform her. He brought a finger to his chin with a playful smile. “I guess I’ll have to check whether he kept up with the work.” He’d sent schoolwork from various subjects along to Lane to try to help him not be behind, and to give him a distraction if he needed one, although of course he wouldn’t be unforgiving if he didn’t complete them, considering his situation.

Greg smiled. "I think he did. As much as he is loathe to admit it, he enjoys schoolwork."

He chuckled, and then moved his gaze to the window. “He is a smart child.”
At that moment, Laurie came out of the bathroom, and Qingying flapwaved his long sleeve from his crouched position on the carpet. “Orie, it’s Greg!” He turned the floating image to show him. It wasn’t all that uncommon for Qingying to be chatting to someone or sending them letters; he took it as a personal duty to keep in contact with people when Laurie and he were in a situation to allow it.

Laurie was in jeans and a T-shirt, his usual attire when he wasn't out in public, and he gave Greg a wave. "Marshall! Long time, man."

"For sure," Greg smiled back kindly. "How are you holding up?"

"Pretty good, yourself?"

"Very well, thank you. It's good to see you. Both of you," he added to Qin.

He smiled back. “Yep!” Then he stood and offered the Multisight to Laurie if he wanted it, turning to face the bathroom as a sign he was going there.

He could hear Laurie and Greg exchange a few quiet words, warm.

He moved around the bathroom (although he didn’t really have to, because he was a projection, but he still took showers, and washed his hands as a habit – and because he could), and then popped out after a little while.
“Lane Foster will be coming back in a day or two,” he said to Laurie as he neared him and Greg on the Multisight; although Laurie may not know what was going on completely, he would have at least noticed the student’s absence.

“It was mostly Greg and Patience,” he gestured at the device, and raised his other hand. “I was just the runner – the person to let Patience and Lane out of school!” He was rather cheerful this morning.

He tilted his head. “He… directed.” He smiled and said vaguely, but Laurie knew he would explain later. Qingying didn’t want to go into an explanation and ignore Greg – who was also a busy person. He sat down on the bed and faced the Multisight, inviting, in case Greg had more to say.

"I'll catch up with the both of you later, is that acceptable?" Greg said, easily taking the cue as they focused back in on his sights.

Qingying gave Laurie an account of what happened that day. Of course, he’d already told him most of it, including (because how could he not!) meeting Freddie. :3 It had been easy to see how pleased he was about that (and he’d mentioned Freddie said they could stop by), but now he was much more light-hearted because the situation was more favourable for Belfry and Lane. Qingying was very happy for Greg – that he had found his place in the world, was engaged in a job he believed in, and had found his own family.

"Freddie, what, Freddie Bowes?!" Laurie laughed. "Unfuckingbelievable. Typical Greg." He clapped Qin on the shoulder as he passed by to grab a poptart out of the cupboard, which he kept stocked with his favorite muggle snacks. "I know Zane a little. He's got it made. Smart as a whip. Minerva made him Head Boy start of the year."

“Mhm… I’ve seen him at Quidditch practice, and spoken to him a few times.” He didn’t need to say the match as they’d gone to watch it together. Qingying liked to get to know students, so he generally spoke to all of them, and kept an eye on them, especially the ones who might need assistance. Qingying wasn’t born as someone who could spread himself easily without becoming too thin, but he’d learned to do so throughout the years, sometimes through purposefully training his range of focus.

Laurie's range was considerably less so, even as a head of house. He looked after the Slytherin students almost exclusively, but he was available and generally pleasant to everyone else. It was obvious he held a soft spot for those in his house, though. "Definitely nothing like Greg," he laughed. "Kid's a peacock to the extreme."

“Maybe he gets that from Freddie?” He wandered as Shuang appeared, booped the book he’d just fished out, and came to rest on his lap. Freddie seemed more warm than peacocky, though.

"Poptart? What's Bowes like in the flesh? I heard he caught a sentence a long time ago in Scandinavia. Some group of dark wizards. Then he became an auror, I guess."

He gestured to show Freddie was thickset. “Black hair, tattoos” – he drew spirals on his arms – “eyes” – he narrowed them, to make them wrinkled and smiley, and then stood up, Shuang floating to the side, to stand like Freddie did. “I’ve just started tea. Care to join me?” He mimicked Freddie exactly, and then wriggled his fingers at the floor as he drew a curved line, representing someone running past. “Fast little bugger, huh?” He chortled.

"Zane's a Snake, too. Plays for the Seventh Year team at Hogwarts, in fact. He's the captain!" He boasted in the same genuine tone that didn’t put others down as Freddie. "Oh, what, the Carrower case?" He blinked. "Uh, I'm afraid I don't know anything other than what's been printed. 'Cept rumours, of course. Can't say if they're true or not, but I know what it's like to be in that position if they are. What's wrong is wrong, no changing that, but does he deserve to die? No. I mean, that's only considering those rumours are true."

"Good to meet you," he patted an invisible shoulder. "Stop by anytime."
And then he came out of the ‘role’, as he thought he’d acted enough for Laurie to get an idea of how Freddie was.

Laurie paid attention to the words rather than the performance, and nodded thoughtfully. "He sounds nice." Greg always was a decent judge of character.

He’d picked those parts on purpose. “Mhm…” He smiled, not particularly widely, but genuine. “And yes, I’ll take a poptart!” He accepted an unfrosted vegan flavour and nibbled it.
