Hugo usually followed his father around like a puppy, but it was no secret that Rose preferred her mother.
Even as a child Hermione could tell that Rose was forceful and intent, like she was, but also a great deal more hands-on and hyperactive, like Ron. Sometimes, Rose reminded her a lot of a more sure-of-herself Ginny back in the day, eager for a fight and all bristling pride, but as the days grew closer and closer to boarding the Hogwarts Express on King's Cross, her old bookishness was coming out full speed ahead.
It wasn't that Hermione expected any one thing of her, in fact that was almost Ron's department. Ron wanted her to be Gryffindor, wanted her to be smarter and better than her peers, but Hermione saw her, and that was enough to win. Hermione encouraged her to be herself, to live to her full potential, to always try and rewarded effort rather than ability.
As she waited for her mother down in the Ministry's atrium, she had her face so close to the massive book in her hands that her nose was almost touching it, green eyes wide with wonder as the pictures sprawled and moved across the pages, depicting several structures of her new school and its faculty.
"Did you know the ceiling is enchanted for different weather, and even nebulae from space?" Rose slammed the heavy tome down on the table and looked up to greet Hermione with this new factoid of the day kick she'd started on.
