THE XAVIER INSTITUTE OF HIGHER LEARNING.

In a time where mutations are just beginning to manifest in 2018, the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning has opened its doors to offer safe haven; meanwhile other nefarious groups and factions are forming to let the world know they are here and they will not be oppressed by tyrannical government restrictions. Which side are you on?

the xavier institute of higher learning code of conduct
drugs & alcohol
  • There is a no tolerance policy of drugs and alcohol usage on school property by students.
  • Adult faculty members may drink in the privacy of their own quarters, nowhere else.
  • Under no circumstances may an adult be intoxicated around a student.
  • Adult faculty members who have been drinking are not permitted to use offensive abilities unless in the case of emergency.
  • If a student or faculty member is struggling with addiction, arrangements will be discussed individually.
  • Students and faculty are permitted to smoke cigarettes in designated areas, but we offer a comprehensive nicotine dependence program. It is not necessary to 'lecture' students on quitting smoking, but we do encourage it. Smoking outside of designated areas is not permitted.
relationships & fraternization
  • Faculty who engage in sexual or romantic relations with a student will be immediately dismissed, even if that student is over the age of eighteen.
  • Students are not allowed in one another's private rooms.
  • All students must attend mandatory Personal Development and Relationships (PDR) classes.
lifestyle
  • Students are provided a weekly stipend of $70 for personal spending. This does not include their essentials such as clothing, food, furniture, bedding, grooming, et cetera, which are paid for by the Institute.
  • Faculty are also paid weekly, but their essentials are also covered.
  • Students may enter Salem Center unaccompanied, provided they return prior to curfew. Younger students may require accompaniment by older students or faculty members, depending upon their level of maturity and navigational awareness.
  • Curfew is from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM. Lights out is at 12:30 AM. Breakfast is served at 7:00 AM. First class is at 8:45 AM.
  • During curfew, students are not permitted to leave the Institute.
wellbeing
  • Students without familial ties will be assigned a case worker as their legal guardian, who will act as their power of attorney and assist them in personal matters.
  • All students are administered a physical, mental and scholastic evaluation prior to beginning classes.
  • Students who are identified as having difficulties in any of those areas are offered additional counseling or individualized education programs.
  • We do possess some adult learners, and offer GED Preparatory classes. These are distinct to the full curriculum that high school students undergo.
behavioral expectations
  • Members of this school represent the Xavier Institute and the public face of the X-Men, and are expected to act accordingly. Respect and sovereignty are our primary values.
  • Violence in any form is not tolerated. This includes physical, verbal, mental and sexual. Students who repeatedly get into fights will be asked to leave the Institute. Abuse and bullying are not tolerated. Those who pose a threat to the wellbeing and safety of others will be expelled without recourse.
training & abilities
  • All members of the Institute, student and faculty alike, must undergo physical and mental tactical training, as well as training in their individual mutations. Staff members are encouraged to participate in student training sessions, especially if a rapport is formed.
  • You may not use mental abilities on another student without their express, continuing consent. You may not use dangerous abilities on another student even if they provide consent. Students and faculty members with abilities that are uncontrolled or harmful will be permitted to use them in structured training environments.
  • Under no circumstances are students to enter the Danger Room without adult supervision. Students are not allowed to 'practice' on one another without supervision.
accountability
  • Rulebreaking will be punished and accomplishments will be rewarded.
  • Those currently receiving a punishment are considered 'on hold.' They may not leave the Institute other than to attend appointments or commitments. They are restricted from being allowed to watch TV or use mobile devices. They may not attend field trips or participate in extracurricular activities. Students will still receive their stipend, but be unable to go shopping until their punishment is over.
  • The punishment for various rulebreaking is not particularly severe, but it serves as a reminder to the lesson that must be imparted. Generally students who are 'on hold' receive individual sessions with Charles to visit the reasoning behind their actions and to make a plan for improvement.

hangar bay & SR-71 Blackbird
Image

The hangar bay is kept under the basketball court in the recreational area of the school, which folds several times before disappearing beneath carefully constructed tracks to permit the jet to raise on an elevated platform, ready for launch. Prior to its launch, the school goes on alert to assure that the area is evacuated of all students and instructors.

The Blackbird is made up of over 90% titanium composite to accommodate the heat stress of speeds in excess of Mach 3 (3700 MPH).

Prior to entering the jet, the pilot and passengers must wear specialized suits in order to withstand the high pressure environment. These were designed by Dr. Hank McCoy and Fred Duncan to be lightweight and physiologically stabilizing. While in the jet passengers have criss-crossing seatbelts over both shoulders and their arms and legs are strapped down. For the duration of the flight, movement is restricted.

It is 107'5" long and 18'6" tall, weighing 59,000 lbs with a cruising speed of Mach 2.2 (2700 MPH). To put this in perspective, it takes the Blackbird 1 hour and 54 minutes to fly from New York to London. This means it can theoretically fly anywhere in the world in under 24 hours, giving our team a significant and global mobile advantage.

The Blackbird is equipped with the following: astroinertial navigation system, inertial navigation system, sensors, technical objective cameras, CAPRE Side Looking Radar System, Optical Bar Camera, EIP System, V/H (FMC) System, Exposure Control, Mission Recorder, Gravity Calculator, Defensive Systems, A2/C2/H/M Systems, and Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar System (ASARS).

It also possesses custom installed features such as Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL, the plane does not require to take-off, it can lift vertically off the ground), and SAR (Search and Rescue) instruments. Both IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) and VFR (Visual Flight Rules) are available. Its defensive systems have been updated from the 70s and include top of the line top-secret rated military weapons.

In addition, Dr. Hank McCoy has boosted the jet's cloaking and stealth technology, permitting it to be completely invisible both to sensors and the naked eye.

All students are given safety lessons on how to put on pressure suits, strap into the passenger seats, where the emergency exits and communications systems are, and how to access the jet's first aid supplies. Students are normally not allowed to journey in the jet other than the initial trip to the Institute, but this training is a precaution in the event of evacuation.

uniforms
The uniforms that the X-Men wear while on missions was selected and designed by Dr. Hank McCoy to be both unobtrusive as well as protective. The uniform is comprised of five parts. 1) A slim ballistics vest, 2) unrestrictive utility pants, 3) a dark long-sleeved shirt with a red X-logo on the right shoulder, 4) flexible, light-weight boots and 5) if necessary, a backpack containing provisions and supplies.

All parts of the uniform are made from a synthetic, thermally insulated, sweat-wicking material designed by Dr. Hank McCoy that is cut-proof, fire-proof, water-proof, electricity-proof and bullet-proof. Every part of the uniform is black. For cold-weather missions, an additional flak jacket and gloves are added comprised of similar, but more dense fibers designed to retain maximum heat. The jacket also bears the red X--logo on the shoulder.

While the operations uniforms are designed to be as lightweight as possible, students must still train in uniform to adjust for the accounted weight balance and how to operate everything and understand its capabilities.

student & faculty training
All students are provided intensive and in-depth training as to the use of their individual abilities.

This provides them with the skills they will need to contribute to the goals of the X-Men, mutant equality and co-existence. Being endowed with powers, it is recognized that all students will need to make a decision as how to use them and how to act, thus this training is provided as a bridge to give all available options.

Students under the age of seventeen are not permitted to take activities with a (*) by them. Training is a mandatory component of student curriculum at the Xavier Institute.

class schedule
This is an example of how classes are structured, there are three different grades (thus three different levels) although some younger-than-highschool students live and train at the school, they attend elementary school elsewhere. Some classes like PDT are taught extensively while others like physics will only happen once a week for the student in question. Classes may appear in the course list that are not on the table.

Curfew is from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM. Lights out is at 12:30 AM. Breakfast is served at 7:00 AM. First class is at 8:45 AM. Dinner is served at 8:00 PM, when all students are typically home in the evening following their commitments. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are full meals provided by a chef, but the kitchen is open and available for students to cook and eat as they please, except when cooking/baking club is in session.

  • Jacran Toreel.
description
  • This class encompasses self-defense, coordination, advanced martial arts, shooting & range drills, enhanced interrogation resistance, mental conditioning, fitness, wilderness survival & close quarters combat.
syllabus
  • This course is primarily comprised of physical activities. There is an essay portion related to the ethics of violence and use of force. This information is disseminated in the form of worksheets and general discussion.
layout
  • PDT takes place on the grounds of XI as well as the Danger Room.
atmosphere
  • The course material is tough and students are expected to behave responsibly. Mr. Toreel is stern, but patient. All students are given the individual attention they need to excel at their strengths. Rough-housing is not tolerated. PDT is mandatory for all students, but certain components of the curriculum are only taught to students over 17. Students who do not take the material seriously will receive an accordant response.
grading curve
  • Students must display practical knowledge in the form of demonstration modules. The essay portions are graded on content, rather than composition. Mr. Toreel is more interested in application than theory. As long as the student genuinely understands each concept, he will work with them to ensure they receive a passing mark.
