Old age should burn and rave at close of day

Ral had moved into his office like he'd owned the place, decorating it with silks and crystals and candles and random tidbits from every corner of the globe- a Chinese dragon statue and a Balinese mask and an American dream catcher and so on and so forth. He didn't necessarily want to be here but he wasn't so much of an ass to turn down the opportunity so carefully crafted to suit him purposefully. And if he was going to be here, he was going to do it in style and on his own terms. His quarters were much the same, currently in the temporary ones on campus, he was on the hunt for something a little more private outside of the school but thus far hadn't had much luck in locating the perfect flat.

He popped into Hale's office doorway with a broad, unapologetic grin, "Hey!"

Hale's reputation amongst the staff and students was one of severity, and that meant that he was very rarely disturbed in his private office. He glanced up from his desk, carved from dark and intricate wood, fixing the newcomer with a steely gaze. He was aware of Ral the way everyone was aware of Ral, but that didn't appear to ingratiate him to Hale at all.

Not 100% visible from where Ral stood, Hale's office was tastefully decorated in warm tones, with his own collection of expensive and unique items. A set of carved animals, antique books, fiery abstract paintings, peculiar mechanical trinkets and a wide selection of tea leaves in mason jars with a dark glass set resting on a tray.

His appreciation for the material extended to the magical as well, and one could spend a great deal of time amid various artifacts, mostly Middle Eastern in origin. On one of the many bookshelves there was a small vial with an emergency marking on it, containing silvery powder, and beside it were additional labeled vials of various immense difficulty and arduousness, each signed by the potioneer responsible.

A small leopard statue reared up and swiveled its head to give Ral an equally displeased look.

"Good morning, Mr. Desjardins."

"Call me Ral." Ralus drawled easily as he stepped into the office uninvited, peering around curiously like he owned the place and someone ELSE had decorated recently. He eyed the leopard and gestured toward it, "Cute."

Hale's eyes flicked between the rolls of parchment he'd been writing on and Ral's face.

"Is there something I can assist you with?" it was dry.

"Yes, actually, do you have a spare quill?"

Hale rose and opened the drawer to his desk (dark, finely carved cherry wood) and withdrew an elegant black-feathered quill with a sharp, flared end and winding white inscriptions that clearly spoke of money and held it out. "Have you just arrived?" he inquired. Unlike most of the professors there, his voice held a British accent, discernible but sophisticated.

Ral took the quill and twirled it between his fingers for a beat before he looked up with a bright smile, "A day or so ago."

"Well, it is good to meet you. Ral," Hale obliged, extending his hand.

Ral took it eagerly, his expression cocky and smug, "And you, Professor Mizana."

His brows arched approvingly, not correcting Ral in the slightest and he gave a faint smile, mostly in his eyes. "Indeed." He shook once, firm.

"You seem quite settled here." he took the opportunity to do a little turn inside Hale's office.

"A decade will do that to you."

Ral whistled lowly, "You don't look a day over a decade younger than you are."

"Careful, that almost sounded sincere," Hale's lips pursed. "Have you been given the tour, yet?" He gestured with a hand.

"I haven't." Ral drawled. He had-- or he'd given himself the tour, anyway, but he never turned down such an opportunity.

"As overdone as this place can sometimes be, it really is quite spectacular. Much of the design is inspired by an alchemist by the name of Nicholas Flamel, who was a student here during the school's inception." He gestured to a portrait hung on the walls as they headed out of the offices and down a flight of stairs. It winked at Ralus and the man inside promptly vanished!
